Hey Videobloggers…

I am a postgrad student at UNSW in Sydney…

I am de-lurking for two reasons. First to comment on what a
practical, active and diverse list this has been over the last few
weeks. The SMIL thing really got me thinking.
Great to see such an open development of concepts and tools…

Secondly to ask you all for a favour in the spirit of open and
conversational video projects:

A Colleague and I are producing a seminar on network ecologies –
basically the potential of network media to produce new ways of
thinking and engaging (particularly for students). We are particularly
interested in 'open' and 'intensive' modes – networked audio and video
is a big focus.

It'd be great if we could gather some video musings or comments from
the members of this list. Doesn't matter who you are or what you do –
anything is good – thats the idea…can be rough/ready and
spontaneous/abstract/empty/silent we don't care. We intend on mixing
all our material with other sources anyhow…

some non-prescriptive directions:

These posts might be about why you choose to blog video.
What you think the potential is for this medium.
It could be a direct comment about 'commenting'.
It might be about education or communication through media networks.
It might be about 'taking the power back' – open source content.
how video changes when it hits the network – what happens to it?
what does video do to dialogue/monologue/multilogue?

but most of all – it could just be a simple bit of video that inserts
your presence into our otherwise closed space!!! This is what we are
really after an 'opening of the space'.

you can post your videos at:
www.slashstarhash.com/eidoscape/edit4.php3 (it can take a while to
upload)
or email me here at : mat@…
you can then see your posts at my presentation page
www.slashstarhash.com/eidoscape

this is kind of an experiment so I hope you have time to have a
go…..the seminar is next wednesday evening – so not much time but we
hope that'll keep things spontaneous and improvisational……..that it
doesn't have to take ages to do this is part of our argument…..

thanks,

Mat Wall-Smith.
